Get the Most Out of Your Exercise Routine
Exercise is just about the best thing you can do to prevent disease. Here’s some advice to help you stick with it:
- Know your goals. Try to set specific short- and long-term goals. Then talk with us (your physical therapist) or your doctor about the types and amount of exercise you can safely do.
- Do what you enjoy. Don’t struggle with a workout you hate. Build in activities that make both your body and brain feel good.
- Find a safe partner. Ask a family member or close friend you are comfortable with, to be active with you. Activity may be more fun with someone.
- Track your progress. You might not feel as though you’re making progress, but you may be pleasantly surprised if you look back at where you started.
- Review your goals. Did you meet your goals? If not, why? Are they attainable? Brainstorm some options of what to do differently.

Physical Therapy Corner - Exercise Still The Best Treatment for OA
Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee and hip are common. It’s tempting to think that your age, sex, body mass, or a previous history of surgery, might mean exercise won’t help your arthritis. Scientists actually discovered just the opposite. Regardless of these factors their research concluded: “exercise and education is the foundation for all OA therapy.” Click here for the reference.
Providing patients with accurate information about their osteoarthritis and the right exercise prescription to treat it, is exactly what physical therapists do best.
We hope you find this information valuable. Stay healthy and see you next month.
